Android: loading, media, and a much better home
- Closed out the big screen-loading pass: screens now wait until their data arrives instead of revealing partial UI, with cached month summaries and plan data making launch feel more complete.
- Shipped Health Connect weight and nutrition events end-to-end, plus video posters and smoother playback. Also fixed flaky media tests and added logging for unexpected HTTP failures.
- The home got a proper visual pass: covered entry cards, tighter spacing, and round launcher-like input widgets. Filed JRNL-902 to chase the remaining slow photo thumbnails rather than pretending the new covers are done-done.
One brand across everything
- Made
deariary/brandthe source of truth for color, spacing, radius, shadow, and paper tokens, then aligned Android and the landing page around it. - Restyled the landing page into a more graphic paper and ink thing: textured paper, torn edges, dark desk surfaces. Feels more like a product with a point of view now.
- Also wrapped up smaller quality work: localized highlights, better calendar/Today behavior, stale-enrichment cleanup, GitHub highlight counts, and removal of old transport events.
Released Add to Today
- Published the release notes for web
v0.17.0: manual “Add to today” input is the headline, with entry covers alongside it. - Posted the launch note to Bluesky: “Some things never reach your apps: a thought on the walk home, how the day felt.” That’s exactly the gap this feature is supposed to cover.
- Also closed JRNL-483, keeping journal voice and cultural tone on the product radar.
